Notes of the Parish Council meeting held on Monday 7th April 2025 at Skillington Village Hall at 6.30pm.
Present: Cllrs N. Clark, A. Clark, E. Clark, B. Hedley, P. Elston, R. McKee, D. Bellamy (SKDC), C. Vernon (LCC).
In Attendance: Mrs P. Harrison (Clerk).
1. Apologies for absence: Cllrs M. Jackson and B. Green (SKDC)
2. Councillors’ Declaration of Interest: None.
3. Notes of meeting of the Parish Council on 3rd March 2025: Agreed and signed into minutes.
4. Matters arising from the minutes:
4.1 12.24/4.2 Grit bins: Councillors checked.the rest of the bins, but no grit will be needed before Autumn.
4.2 12.24/11.1 Community Orchard: Councillors met and reviewed the size needed. The Clerk will look for fencing quotes. We may have some free trees, if we wait until October or November.
5. Planning applications:
5.1 S25/0261 Mr J Stoneman: Manor Farm House, Middle Street- Section 211 notice to T1 Sycamore to reduce western side branch back to main stem. T2 – Weeping Ash, reduce large ………………………… branch on western side by 2.5 metres – No objections.
5.2 S25/0556 Mr P Lord: Beeches, Park Lane – Section 211 notice in relation to fell three Ash trees with Ash. dieback.
5.3 Any further planning applications.
6. Cemetery:
6.1 Infestation of ants: There is still an ant infestation. The playing field groundsman is repairing the roller but doesn’t think it will help, although, it may be worth a go.
6.2 Cemetery extension: Hedging is needed. Cllr Clark offered some hedging whips, which need planting immediately.
6.3 Review of cemetery charges: The PC has proposed, and agreed an increase.

8. Clerk’s Report: The Clerk has nothing to report.
9. Matters to be discussed at this meeting:
9.1 It was noted that there have been an increasing number of power cuts in the village.
9.2 There was flooding in the garden of a house on Buckminster Lane. The drain nearby had been cleared only two weeks earlier.
9.3 The Fish Well: It has been reported that there is more deterioration to the Fish Well. Repairs are already in place for later in the Spring, but The Clerk will contact the mason to try and bring it forward.
9.4 Cllr Jackson has requested that he would like to lease a small area of the paddock, with the agreement of the current tenant. There needs to be an agreement stating that any alterations should revert to the original …………… condition, upon any sale of the property.
10. District and County Councillor’s Reports:
Cllr Green sent a report stating that fly-tipping can now be reported on Fixmystreet. Cllr Bellamy will confirm whether or not SKDC streetlights are included in this addition.
SKDC Councillors voted to oppose the merger with North Kesteven, South Holland and Rutland.
The A1 meeting mentioned that there had been 2000 injurious accidents in the last 5 years. Smaller junctions are beginning to be closed.
11. Any matters arising at the discretion of the Chair:
11.1 The Village Hall Committee would like to have closer ties with the PC, for the mutual benefit of both sides. The PC would still be required to have separate meetings.
11.2 V E Day: a separate Committee has been formed to organise events for V E Day.
11.3 Gravel has been accumulating at the bottom of Colsterworth Road, which is posing a skid risk.
The meeting was closed at 7.25 pm.
The next meeting of the Parish Council will be the AGM which will be held on Wednesday 7th May 2025 at 6.30pm. It will be held at Skillington Village Hall.
